Inca Roca, the sixth [G 11 / Inca] emperor, had a son by a beautiful woman named Mama Micay who was of the Huayllaca tribe. The child was named Titu Cusi Hualpa. The chief of the Ayamarca tribe (neighbors of the Huayllaca tribe) had been promised Mama Micay as his wife by the Huayllacas and never forgave them for this broken oath. As a result, war broke out between the two tribes.
The Huayllaca were a weaker tribe and it was not long before they were subdued by the Ayamarca. The chief of the Ayamarca then demanded the child of Inca Roca and Mama Micay, Titu Cusi Hualpa. The boy, only eight years old, was sent to the Ayamarca by Inca Roca. When he was given to the chief, the boy threatened to put a curse on the Ayamarca if they harmed him. Having said these words he wept tears of blood.
Titu Cusi Hualpa was held hostage by the Ayamarca for several years before being returned to the Inca. He later became the seventh Inca emperor, Yahuar Huacac, which means `he who weeps blood' in the Inca language.
